In a commanding display at Eden Gardens, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured an emphatic 80-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 15 of the TATA IPL 2025. This win not only elevated KKR’s position in the IPL 2025 points table but also underscored their dominance in both batting and bowling departments, making them strong contenders for the title.
After losing the toss, KKR decided to bat first and suffered early losses when Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine were removed in the first three overs. But a strong partnership between captain Ajinkya Rahane and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi kept the innings in check. Rahane’s calm 38 off 27 balls matched Raghuvanshi’s aggressive 50 off 32 deliveries, which included five boundaries and two sixes, and their 81-run partnership provided a strong base for the middle order to build upon.

Iyer came in at a pivotal moment and hammered a scorching 60 off only 29 balls, complete with three soaring sixes and seven fours. From the beginning, SRH’s answer was difficult. The key player for KKR, Vaibhav Arora, hit gold in the opening over, dismissing the dangerous Travis Head for a duck. By dismissing Abhishek Sharma in the next over, Harshit Rana made SRH’s problems worse. Arora showed off his skill as a fielder by sending Ishan Kishan back to the pavilion with a superb catch off bowling.
Nitish Kumar Reddy and Kamindu Mendis made fleeting attempts to steady the batting, but the KKR bowling attack made sure there was no break. The middle and lower orders were further demolished by Varun Chakaravarthy and Andre Russell. Chakaravarthy’s ability to use spin was very impressive; he took important wickets, including SRH captain Pat Cummins. Sunrisers Hyderabad was dismissed for a meager 120 in 16.4 overs as a result of their disciplined bowling and astute fielding combined.
